I Wish it Could be Christmas Every Day?

This morning while I was driving to work, Wizzard's "I wish it could be Christmas every day" was playing through the stereo. And I found myself saying "but really, it is Christmas every day!"

This year, I have noticed more so than previous years that Christmas has started earlier than it used to when I was a child. Even I was writing Christmas cards in October and had basically finished shopping by the middle of November.

The reason why I think people are clinging on to Christmas as soon as the clocks change is for comfort, familiarity, joy, and something to look forward to. In a world that is currently so uncertain and somewhat scary at times, finding joy in Christmas lights and music, re-creating magical memories with family and friends and clinging on to the comfort of the familiarity that Christmas brings seems to be something that more and more people are doing.

The good news is that every day can be Christmas Day, because Jesus is for life and not just for Christmas (!) Every day, we can rest assured that Jesus came to Earth in human form to be a Light in the darkness and to be a Saviour. Every day, we can appreciate and value time spent with friends and family, and find joy in being in community. Every day, we can exchange gifts with others - the gift of a smile, the gift of a hug, the gift of a meal or the gift of time spent with each other. Every day, we can cling on to the truth of Emmanuel - God with us.

Every day, day by day, we can walk in the truth that Jesus came to bring joy, hope and love and that is STILL TRUE when the world seems dark, hopeless and scary.

Merry Christmas! (Every day)
